Quick Q&A With One Our Designers; Okey Dokey

I sat down with Sarah, one of our ODD balls at Okey Dokey to talk all things design, Okey Dokey with a couple of secrets along the way. If you want to know more about Sarah and Okey Dokey then grab a cuppa and read on.

Sarah thank you so much for meeting with me today, can you tell me about yourself?

Hello, I’m Sarah and I am a married mum of one crazy toddler and two cats, it’s full on but George always keeps me on my toes, so every day is different and as for the cats, they have their own personas to!

Thank you so much for sharing a bit about yourself, what about your professional history, how did we get to this conversation happening today?

I feel very fortunate to have always had an interest in design and knew I wanted a career in this field, so I went to and graduated from University with a BA arts degree in product design. I was very fortunate to land on my feet with a 1-year placement during my time at University, I loved it so much I went back and worked there after graduating. A new opportunity presented itself to me and I jumped in headfirst. After this, I worked at a small design agency for 6 years as a specialist designer taking on artwork, 3D designs, assisting with assembly of said units, finishing off with client meetings, some may call me an all-rounder. Fancying a new challenge, I found myself at Okey Dokey and now no day is the same and I love it!

That is so incredible you have always dedicated yourself to design, I can see your passion runs past this just being a job. What is it you do now at Okey Dokey?

I am one of the ODD balls at Okey Dokey, I design client concepts from the initial idea all the way through to the end product, I love designing something new and with Okey Dokey every day is different. I focus on retail design, but we also do artwork, exhibition work, 3D and technical design for both home and retail.

A lot to keep your mind busy then, that’s great to hear. What would you say is your favourite part of working at Okey Dokey?

I love that every project is different but what I love most is the creative freedom we have with our clients and seeing the happiness of what we produce for them being exactly what they wanted, without them knowing that’s what they wanted, if that makes sense? We also never take ourselves too seriously, so we work hard and play hard!

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. It’s been so nice talking to you about all things design, what would you say to someone looking to get into design, any tips?

That is a great question, I would say always take any opportunity you have to gain experience in different avenues of design, there are so many roles you can take when it comes to design and one piece of advice, I would like to give is not to niche down too quickly because of this. As the great Michael Scott said, ‘you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take’, I use this everyday as a reminder to always take the shot before it passes you by!

Thank you so much that is great advice for anyone who may be looking to get into design but also just some great life advice. Okay, last question, how should someone get in contact with Okey Dokey if they are looking for some design work?
